CYC Chess at SHVP
Children in grades 3rd–8th are invited to take part in CYC Chess through Sacred Heart Valley Park and the Saint Louis Chess Club. Depending on how many register, children will be split into two groups by experience level: Beginner and Intermediate.

Saint Louis Chess Club instructors will teach the sessions, with these goals:
- Introduce students to chess while building critical thinking and focus
- Encourage sportsmanship, patience, and problem-solving skills
- Provide a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all skill levels
- Prepare interested students for CYC and other scholastic chess competitions
Weekly Instruction – Thursdays, 6:00–8:00 PM (I4 Lab)
- 6:00–7:00 PM → Beginners
- 7:00–8:00 PM → Intermediate
- Dates: 12/3, 12/10, 12/17, 1/7, 1/14, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11
- No practice over Christmas break (12/24 and 12/31)
Free-Play / Practice Night – Thursday, 1/21
There's no Saint Louis Chess Club instruction this night. It's a chance to get together, play a couple of games, and practice with one another.

CYC Chess Competitions (Saturdays, optional)
- 12/12 – Competition #1 at St. Joseph Cottleville
- 1/9 – Competition #2 at St. Joseph Imperial
- 1/16 – Competition #3 at St. Ann Normandy
- 2/6 – Competition #4 at Priory High School
- 2/20 – Finals at St. Joseph Imperial
Competitions are optional. Your child is welcome to simply learn the game of chess from the Saint Louis Chess Club instructors.
Cost: $120 per participant, which covers the practice and learning sessions.

Spirit Wear: We're working on optional SHVP Chess spirit wear that participants can buy separately. More details will come once it's ready.
